Westchester Medical Center would not be the same without its volunteers, many of whom were once patients or have friends and family who were treated here. Volunteers from every sector of the community work in nearly every department of the Medical Center, offering the most valuable of commodities…time and caring. Volunteers perform a wide variety of non-medical services to help make a patient’s stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible.

Emergency Department Liaison needed for
6 to 12 months
Opportunity Description:
Very bright, more mature volunteers who help improve patient satisfaction by facilitating communication between patient/family and ED staff, providing emotional support and assist in resolution of issues and concerns. Volunteers will be keeping families and patients updated as to wait times, informing of trauma , keeping an eye on waiting patients to make sure they are being seen when appropriate and updates to the families where in the process they are.

Patient Ambassadors (Unit Based Action Team) needed for
6 to 12 months
Opportunity Description:
Mature, bright volunteers who visit with newly admitted patients and facilitate communication with patients and families to help problem solve non-clinical issues to increase Customer and patient satisfaction; act as a liaison with patient, families and staff. They do rounding with staff members and interview patients while implementing a real time satisfaction survey. The volunteer will gain insight and understanding into the total patient experience, patient’s rights and customer and guest service issues.

Surgical or ICU Liaison needed for
6 to 12 months
Opportunity Description:
Mature, responsible volunteer who provide detailed and timely updates to the patients’ families and loved ones. They will greet people there and inform of their service. Make contact by phone or go the correct unit to get information. Keep family informed as to where in the surgical process the patient is. Make sure the physician speaks with the family, if physician is going into another procedure; find out who will speak to the family in his /her place. Contact family members via cell if they need to leave. Give directions to lobbies, food, unit, escort when needed.
